Why vehicle completeness matters
A junk car is often valued from its year, model, condition, reusable components and recoverable material. Two vehicles that look similar can receive different evaluations when one has an engine, transmission, catalytic converter and wheels while the other has been stripped.
Do not wait until pickup to mention missing parts. A quote based on a complete vehicle may require review if major components are absent. Current photographs reduce confusion and help show the actual condition.
Engine and transmission
State whether the engine and transmission remain installed. A failed engine is different from a missing engine. If parts were removed during diagnosis or repair, explain what the shop removed and whether those components are still available with the vehicle.
Never reinstall heavy parts without proper equipment simply to make the car appear complete. Report the condition honestly and allow the evaluation to account for it.
Catalytic converter, battery and electronics
A missing catalytic converter can affect the value of a junk car. Mention whether it was stolen, removed or replaced. Also identify a missing battery, alternator, computer modules or other major electrical parts. A dead battery should be described as dead rather than missing.
Wheels, tires and keys
Pickup planning depends on whether the car can roll and steer. Report missing wheels, flat tires, locked brakes, broken suspension and absent keys. A vehicle sitting on blocks or resting on the ground may need a different approach from a car with four rolling wheels.
